Dr San Bilal is a senior executive and associate director of ECDPM’s sustainable economies and climate action cluster. He is also a member of the management team.
San’s work focuses on development & climate finance, sustainable investment, economic recovery and transformation dynamics (notably in Africa), the European financial architecture for development and Global Gateway, trade and development, sustainable global value chains, economic partnership agreements, regional integration processes in Africa, private sector and development, economic diplomacy, (resource-based) industrialisation, and emerging players in Africa.
San holds a PhD in international economics from the University of Birmingham, a master’s degree from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Geneva. Before joining ECDPM, he worked at ODI, the European Institute of Public Administration and the University of Geneva’s economics department.
San is also a coordination member of the OECD-THK Blended Finance Platform, European Think Tank Group & Ukȧmȧ Africa-Europe platform for sustainable development.
