Alfonso Medinilla is the head of ECDPM’s climate action and green transition team. He focuses on the geopolitics of the global green transition and renewable energy.
Alfonso specialises in the geopolitical dimensions of the global green transition, renewable energy development and Africa-Europe climate diplomacy. He currently works on the global politics of green economic recovery, the external dimensions of the European Green Deal, and a just approach to global climate action. He has a keen interest in the political economy of natural resource management, the interlinkages between water, energy and food security, and locally-led transitions.
Prior to joining ECDPM, Alfonso worked for the European Commission and the United Nations Development Programme in Brussels, where he focused on EU external action in the field of governance, democratisation and human rights. He has master’s degrees in European studies, development studies, art history and archaeology from the universities of Leuven and Gent.
